Atkinson, NH – On November 3, 2015, Robert Michael “Boomer” Rooseboom left this world after a battle with cancer.Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late, August and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Rooseboom. He was a graduate of the Assumption of Mary Grammar School near his home on Bunkerhill Street. A Central Catholic High School Graduate in 1964 and Merrimac College in 1968 he also had a Masters from Lowell University.Retiring in 2013, Boomer spent the last 45 years teaching at his alma mater, Central Catholic High School. There he taught Spanish, World History and American History. He coached the Freshman and JV Boy’s basketball, also the Freshmen Girls Team. Throughout his tenure as coach, he amassed more than 500 wins where his dedication and talent earned him an induction into the Central Catholic Hall of Fame.In his younger years, he played semi-pro basketball, and initiated intramural volleyball and basketball programs at Central Catholic. An active participant in school programs, he enjoyed running the college quiz ball and was technical director of the Spring and Fall Play Productions. Boomer was the “Voice of Central” at the home football games for many years, even into his retirement.In his spare time, he enjoyed both fresh water and deep sea fishing, golfing and puttering in his yard.Above all Boomer loved his family and friends and cherished the time in their company. His sense of humor will be missed by all.He leaves his beloved wife of 44years, Maureen E. (McCaughey) Rooseboom a sister, Nancy and her husband Keith Shamberger of Methuen in laws, Michael and Patricia McCaughey of Hampton NH Anthony and Kathleen Kelleher of Atkinson, NH a niece Krystin Shambegber of Methuen a nephew Brendan McCaughey of Newington, NH., two grand- nephews Matthew and Michael Miller, along with several cousins.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Hannah Duston Healthcare Facility for their compassion and kindness shown during his stay.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, November 5th from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill.
