R. Barry Ruth, 71, of Haverhill, died unexpectedly on Monday, February 06, 2012, at home.Born, Robert Barry Ruth, on December 7, 1940, he was the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. and Margaret E. (Cotter) Ruth. Educated in Haverhill, he attended local schools, graduating from Haverhill High School, with the Class of 1958 and attended Northern Essex Community College. Barry would continue to remain a life long resident of Haverhill where he would live and raise five sons along side his loving wife, Pat.A United States Army Veteran, Barry proudly served his country from October of 1958, being honorably discharged in February of 1962.For most of his professional career, Barry, a local Real Estate Appraiser, was a self employed business owner, operating Barry Ruth Appraisals located in Haverhill, until his retirement.In his spare time, Barry was an avid golfer, playing and holding membership at the Crystal Springs Golf Club, as well as participating in a local Garrison golf league. He was extremely passionate about local Haverhill sports. Barry was active in the Haverhill Touchdown Club, and was well known throughout the sports community in Haverhill.Barry leaves his loving wife of 51 years, Mrs. Patricia Pauline (Kelly) Ruth of Haverhill, four sons, Barry P. Ruth and his fiancé, Erin (O’Neil) of Londonderry, Michael J. Ruth and his wife Becky of Cary, North Carolina, Daniel P. Ruth and his wife Deanna (Barker) of Plaistow, NH, and Thomas E. Ruth and his wife Diane (Descoteaux) of Haverhill, three brothers, John M. “ Jack” Ruth Jr. and his wife Clodette of Haverhill, David F. Ruth and his wife Lorraine of Northwood, NH., and Brian E. Ruth of Haverhill, eight cherished grandchildren, T.J., Matt, Ben, Riley, John, “J.T.”, Abby, Emily, and Ally Ruth. He was predeceased by his son James M. Ruth, in 1986.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday, from 5 until 8 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Primrose St. Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the James M. Ruth Scholarship Fund c/o John Greenleaf Whittier Middle School, 256 Concord St. Haverhill, MA 01830.
