Susanne Marie (Hodgkins) Smith, 51, of Methuen, died Monday, July 11, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of Richard A. and Fannie Mae (Engstrom) Hodgkins. She attended Lawrence Regional Technical Institute of Nursing and was certified as an L.P.N. in advanced pediatric care.Ms. Smith was employed as a private duty nurse for Shriver Nursing, serving patients with dignified care for many years until her illness forced her into an early retirement three years ago.A devoted mother, loving daughter, sister, and aunt, along with her parents, she leaves her five cherished children, Justin A. Smith, of Methuen, Brandon J. Smith and his wife, Alicia, of Marlborough, Andrew J. Smith, of Methuen, Travis R. Smith, of Methuen, and Alyssa N. Smith, of Salem, MA, a brother, Mark R. Hodgkins, of Lawrence, and a sister, Linda M. Ruscio, of Methuen.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday, from 4 until 8 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Grove St. Methuen, MA.
