William McCarthy

William F. McCarthy, 92, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at the Prescott Long Term Care in North Andover after a lengthy illness.Born in Boston, Jan. 5, 1918, he was the son of the late, Jeremiah and Catherine (Hutchinson) McCarthy. Raised in Medford, he was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1938. He then received his engineering degree from Lowell Tech.A veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Upon his return he was employed as a planner at the Charlestown Navy Yard where he would spend his entire career, retiring in 1970. Soon after retiring, he met and married the love of his life, Aileen (Morgan) from Haverhill, and would spend the next 25 years with her until her death in 2004.He was an avid reader and enjoyed ballroom dancing.He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Cannon of Woburn, and Evelyn McCarthy of Malden nieces and nephews, Kathleen Boland, of Marstons Mills, Eileen Shuman of Brattleboro, Vt., William McCarthy, of York, Maine, the Honorable Michael McCarthy of Nashua, N.H., Robert Tremblay, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Paul Tremblay of Cambridge, James Cannon, of Deerfield, N.H., John Cannon of Londonderry, N.H., Stephen Cannon of Woburn, Lynn Larrabie of Palos Verdes, Calif., and Kevin Morgan, of Atkinson, N.H. a sister-in-law, Mary T. (Norris) McCarthy of Chelmsford, and many grand nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph F. McCarthy, Rita Tremblay and nieces, Susan Cannon, and Lorraine Tremblay.ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Route 125), Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, Bellevue Ave. Haverhill. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill.
