William B. Welch, 65, of Amesbury, formerly of Haverhill, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at Hannah Duston Health Care in Haverhill after a lengthy illness.Born and educated in Haverhill, he was the son of Eleanor F. (Hurteau) and the late William A. Welch. He was a graduate of both, St. James Grammar and St. James High School, Class of 1963. After completing two years at Merrimack College, he enlisted into the U.S. Army. A Vietnam Veteran, he served in Army Intelligence. Upon his return from the war, he married his sweetheart, Gayle F. Dow and relocated to Amesbury. He continued his education and received his Degree from the University of New Hampshire.For over thirty-six years, Mr. Welch was employed with American Airlines, at Logan Airport in Boston, retiring in 2008. He loved sports he enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid traveler.A devoted husband and father, he leaves his beloved wife of thirty-eight years, Gayle F. (Dow) Welch, of Amesbury, a son Jesse M. Welch and his wife, Judith A. (Thompson), of Rochester, NH, a daughter, Vanessa L. Welch and her fiancé, Samson Michaels, of South Boston, his mother, Eleanor F. Welch, of Haverhill, two grandchildren, Olivia and Fiona Welch, a brother, Martin J. and his wife, Jane M. Welch, of Haverhill, a sister, Deborah A. and her husband, Alan D. LaBranche, of Amesbury, brothers and sisters in law, Bonnie and John Kohan, of Atlanta, GA, April and Nassos Michas, of NYC, Cheryl Foley, of Assonet, MA, William Walker, of Lemoine, ME, Robin and Joel Ambrose, of Baldwinsville, NY, and several nieces and nephews.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Wednesday, April 27, from 3 until 7 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
