HAVERHILL – James “Sonny” Mitchell, 75, husband of 44 years to Rebecca (McNeil) Mitchell, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the Haverhill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Born on February 21, 1950 in Portland, Maine, he was the son of James and Lucille (Chase) Mitchell. After his high school years James was dedicated school bus driver for 35 years. James enjoyed crafting, phone video games, history and game shows. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Rebecca (McNeil) Mitchell of Haverhill, he leaves behind his granddaughter Kelsey Santoro whom he and his wife loved and raised as their own; his son William Mitchell, and his step sons Randy Ball, Ronald Ball and his wife Eleanor, and Rodney Ball. Brothers Michael and wife Sandra, John and wife Mary Jane “Tuni”, Arthur and wife Marie, and sisters Lucile “Franny” Dole and Margaret “Peggy” Mitchell. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren: Richard III, Jeremy and wife Rhiannon, Rebecca, Nathan, Victoria, Vanessa, Rochelle, Brianna, Stacie, Alicia, Timothy, Tyler, Elyana, Olivia, Edward, Elliot and Isaac; and 22 great grandchildren, including Cylus who had a special bond and enjoyed building and inventing new things together.
James is preceded in death by son James, sisters Naomi Johnson and Hazel Huntress, brother Everett Mitchell and great granddaughter Delilah.

I miss you so much and I know you wont be able to see this but I wish you could I still remember the days where you were sick and were ill but you still came to see me and my siblings and I,m so so so so grateful that you were in my life you were the best thing I have had and you were my bestfriend but it was your time to go I love you
