Joseph M. Gigliotti Jr., 71

GROVELAND – Joseph M. Gigliotti Jr., 71, of Groveland, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, with his son by his side, following a brief battle with advanced lung cancer.

Born in Haverhill on December 11, 1954, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph M. Gigliotti Sr. and Eleanor (McGowan) Gigliotti, and grew up on Garden Street. He was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School and worked for Lucent Technologies before retiring. He had lived in Groveland in recent years.

Known to everyone as Joey, he lived life fiercely, stubbornly, and entirely on his own terms. He was a supportive presence for his family, frequently attending his grandchildren’s games with his signature mustache and quiet demeanor intact, never hesitating to vocalize his thoughts on a missed penalty call. He had a special bond with animals, constantly winning over pets with a little affection and a well-timed piece of steak.

Joey was funny, and he had a gift for brightening any room he walked into. He was the life of the party even when he had to be talked into attending one. He cherished good times with close friends, whether at the Garibaldi Club, over a cold beer, with a Mai Tai at New Moon Garden in Haverhill, or discovering new local spots like China Villa in Middleton. A devoted New England sports fan, he could usually be counted on to have heard the latest on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

He is survived by his son, Marc J. Gigliotti, and daughter-in-law, Jessie, of Middleton; his siblings, Geri Davis of Haverhill, Debbie Kelleher of Haverhill, and Stevie Gigliotti of Haverhill; and his grandchildren, Addison, Jackson, Brooke, and Aliyah. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Joel, with whom he is now reunited in peace.

His family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who offered support and showed such love during his final weeks. Though his passing was sudden, there is comfort in knowing he remained independent to the end and did not suffer. He will always be remembered for his humor, warmth, wit, and character.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, August 30th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 31st, at 11:00 AM at St. James Church, 185 Winter Street, Haverhill, in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.
