Karen L. (Smith) Murray, 85 of Groveland, wife of Charles E. Murray, Sr., passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill after a period of declining health.
Karen was born in Haverhill on August 31, 1940. She was the daughter of Theodore and Nancy (Priest) Smith. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1958.
Karen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and loved being a Nana above all things. When her sons were young she held various small part time jobs so she could be home with them. Later on in life, after the kids had grown, she enjoyed her job working at Continental Microwave and Tool Co. in Exeter, NH. She was recognized many times at that job as being an exceptional worker.
Karen loved the beach and the ocean. She especially enjoyed York Beach, ME and North Hampton, NH. She was a wonderful cook, a beautiful sewer, and talented at doing all sorts of crafts. She enjoyed sewing her grandchildren’s costumes when they were young. She was the world’s best Nana to her grandchildren and they all reminded her of that before she went to be with her Lord.
Karen will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 64 years Charles Murray, Sr. She is survived by her two sons Charles E. Murray, Jr. and his wife Jane of Groveland with whom she lived, and Jeff Murray and his wife Carissa of Hampton, NH.
She also leaves behind her brothers Harry Smith of Methuen, and James Smith and his wife Patricia of Merrimac, MA, and her sister Cheryl Williams of Maryland; grandchildren Colleen Harrington and her husband Brett of Byfield, MA, Erin Murray of Groveland, Liam Murray and partner Brianne Terrence of Epping, NH, and Kelly Murray and her fiancé Scott Ambrosia of Hampton, NH, and two cherished great-grandchildren Thomas and Grace Harrington of Byfield, MA, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother David Smith and her sister Lois Glassman.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, July 11th from 10AM until 11AM, followed by a funeral home chapel service at 11AM at the Kevin B.
