Mary E. (Ferrick) Stabile, 85

HAVERHILL – Mary E. (Ferrick) Stabile, 85, of Severna Park, Maryland, formerly of Haverhill, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 10th at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Maryland.

Mary was born in Amesbury on November 24, 1940 to Joseph D. and Esther T. (Perkins) Ferrick. She was a graduate of St. James High School, class of 1958, and MacIntosh College, class of 1959.

Mary married the love of her life, Robert P. Stabile in February 1961. They made their home in the Acre, finally settling on lower Eighth Avenue for over 40 years.   They raised their three children in a home that never had a dull moment and was full love.

When Mary returned to work, she was a bookkeeper for various local businesses, including a law firm, construction, roofing and welding companies and her favorite, the George McCarthy Shoe Pattern.  Mary subsequently joined the Haverhill School System serving breakfasts and lunches to students at John Greenleaf Whittier Middle and Haverhill High School.  She loved the students and they loved her – many would approach her years later at Market Basket just to say hello.

Mary and Robert were snowbirds and enjoyed traveling to the Siesta Key in Florida and camping with family and their many friends at Salisbury Beach Reservation.  Mary loved being a wife, mom, Grammie. She adored her many dogs, especially Buddy, and her cat Heidi. She enjoyed Friday night Bingo at St. James School, trips to Las Vegas to play nickel slots, cribbage (proudly scoring a 24 hand in 2025) and making everyone laugh. She never met a stranger.

Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Robert in January 2024, just weeks shy of their 63rd wedding anniversary; her parents; her brother Joseph Ferrick and sister Roberta (Ferrick) Larson.

She is survived by her loving children: son Robert P. Stabile and his husband William Leary of Haverhill, her daughters Susan M. Pagliccia, of Oak Bluffs, and Maria L. Barnard and her husband James, of Severna Park, MD. She was the greatest Grammie to her grandchildren Megan; Jacob and his wife Maura Tuffy; Jessica; Mia; and Lauren. She also leaves two great-grandsons, Michael and Joseph.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law Leonard Stabile and his wife Sheila; her grand-dogs Max, Keeley, and Leah; along with many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

We rejoice that Mom and Dad are together again.

Donations in Mary’s memory can be made to her favorite Saint and charity – St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate
