HAVERHILL – Philip J. Donovan, 87, formerly of Haverhill, MA passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Philip was born in Haverhill on November 12, 1938; he was the son of Daniel H. and Adelaide R. (Woodard) Donovan and he attended Haverhill Trade School, after which he served in the US Navy. Philip and his wife Gail dated since age 15 and were married for 65 years; together they owned and operated Donovan Floor Covering in Haverhill and Plaistow from 1972 to 1992. Through their floor covering business they were able to enjoy traveling to Hawaii, Aruba and Mexico; as well as going to St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico.
Philip is survived by his children Kelly A. and her husband Jeffrey Bresnahan of Plaistow, NH, Karen J. and her husband James Atkins of Barrington, NH, Debra Delayani and Gregory Bouchicas of Plaistow, NH, Lisa and her husband Peter Begley of Freemont, NH, Shawn and his wife Heather Donovan of Sandown, NH, Daniel and his wife Karen Donovan of Newburyport, MA, and Jennifer Perry of Loveland, CO. He also leaves behind his 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife Gail B. (Mantia) Donovan, and his brothers Robert Donovan, James Donovan, and Jackie Donovan.
Philip was lovingly cared for at home by his devoted family, especially his daughter Kelly, throughout his long illness.
